The only residential complex in Canada built by renowned architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was completed in 1967 and is considered an example of the International Style of architecture, which developed in the first half of the last century and was defined by an esthetic of glass and steel devoid of ornamentation. The architect fashioned Westmount Square\u2019s two residential towers and one office tower after the Lakeshore Drive Apartments he completed in Chicago in 1951. In the real-estate business, it\u2019s all about location, location, location, and Westmount Square\u2019s access to all the central core of the city has to offer, plus its direct connection to a m\u00e9tro line and underground shopping, are strong selling points, but in the case of this property, the view, arguably, trumps location. The ninth-floor, 1,675 square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit is on the market for $1,340,000. Its smoked-glass floor to ceiling windows offer spectacular views of both the city and the mountain. \u201cIt\u2019s high enough for a panoramic view, but not too high so as to miss the beauty of the mountain,\u201d selling agent Liza Kaufman said. \u201cThe view is beautiful all year round \u2014 like ever-shifting art.\u201d The apartment was completely gutted two years ago. The master-bedroom suite has a bank of custom built-in closets, a luxurious dressing area and bath and a built-in desk for office work.
